Havoc Studios March 2020 Newsletter
March 2020 Newsletter
Staying Safe, Staying Busy
Times are troubling and chaotic, but that isn’t stopping us from working! We are staying safe and hope all of you are as well. Hopefully this month’s newsletter (even if it is a few days late) can offer a brief distraction from reality!
Havoc Fox Collectibles and Lore
In Havoc Fox, players with a knack for exploration will be rewarded for their efforts. A variety of hidden items and secrets can be found in each stage!
The first of these collectibles that you’ll likely encounter are plush dolls and figures modeled after characters within the game. Finding one of these toys will reward you with a narrative lore entry about the character, often explaining backstory elements of them, their personality, or their surroundings. While all of them are hidden rewards, their method of obtainability may vary; some of the dolls may be in a secret area within a stage while others are rewarded for completing stage segments in a specific manner.
Beyond the plush toys, the lore of Havoc Fox’s stages and enemies can be obtained through standard game progression. Informative descriptions of stages will be available upon completion. Enemies have information cards that can be obtained by defeating them in a particular way. Explore and experiment as you play through the game. Your efforts will be rewarded!
Current Development Update
Aside from the writing of lore and information, we have been hard at work redesigning main menu art, updating the pause menu, and working with character sprites!
As you can see, the side images that correspond with different selections of the main menu have been updated to reflect the game’s adjusted art style that we have been implementing over the past couple of months. Additional characters, such as Lyle and Cascade, have been added to these graphics to show off more of the game’s cast. Furthermore, the in-game pause menu has been updated to a more sleek design, as well as showing your current health and abilities, allowing you to switch between them before returning to the game!
Additionally, Grey and Venice have had their sprites updated to change color in conjunction with their currently-equipped ability!
When selecting different abilities, Grey’s ears, scarf, and tail will change in color to reflect his selected attack. For example, his colors will be pink when using his standard ability, white when using Avian Tempest, etc. Similarly, Venice’s goggles will change in color to reflect her selected ability.
Community Spotlight: Kat
In each edition of the Havoc Studios monthly newsletter, we will highlight the works and/or relations of a member from the community or studio. We are grateful for everyone within the community and would like to recognize those of you who help bring life to the community. Our March community spotlight features Kat, one of our Discord moderators!
Kat serves as one of the moderators for the Havoc Studios Discord server, helping to keep the server in check. She is also responsible for Beepbun, the server’s bot (named after Lyle’s nickname) which is used to keep the server clear of spam and help issue discipline. Kat has been with the community since its conception, stating that she loves watching how the server has grown and watches the projects of us and other server members unfold. While she is pursuing programming in hopes of working with astrophysics, Kat is considering working with game development as a hobby.
